Born in Annville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Miller Houser and stepfather, Paul Houser. She was a graduate of Annville High School and Prince George Community College. Sylvia worked as an operator and service assistant for Bell Telephone in Glenn Dale, Maryland. She was an associate member of Living Springs Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her son, Marshall Hurlbert (Jeannie); daughter, Darlene Hurlbert (fiancé, Philip Simonetti, Jr.); and two granddaughters, Sarah Hurlbert and Rachel Dykes (Grant).
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Hurlbert, and her brother, Marshall Miller.
Services will be held at a later date in Grand View Cemetery in Annville, PA.
