Theodore Barnwell McDonald, Jr. “Ted” was born in Spartanburg, SC on July 6, 1952 to Theodore Barnwell McDonald, Sr. “Theo” and Lucy Mildred Layton McDonald. Ted grew up in Columbia, SC, and in his younger years worked with his father in heating and air; later he became a long-haul trucker. He loved the open road, loved mechanics and racecars, loved the patterns and mechanics of life.
Ted passed from the struggles of this life on March 5, 2022 in Greenwood, SC. He is survived by daughter, Amy McDonald Calkin; grandchildren, Kathlynn Calkin Miller, Richard (Lou) Staples, Caroline Staples, and Connor Staples and great-grandchildren, Avarey, Delia and Lincoln Miller. Ted is also survived by his three sisters, Nellie Lee McDonald Powell, Carolyn Annette McDonald Vandegrift (Roy), and Virginia Ruth McDonald Williamson and their families, and is predeceased by his parents and by his cousin/adopted brother, Calvin Conrad Layton (originally of Gordonsville, VA; July 1961 - July 2021).
Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Saturday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m.
