Thomas John Baronowski, 70, of Columbia, SC passed away on April 18, 2024. He was born in Fort Jackson, SC on November 2, 1953. Mr. Baronowski was the son of Joseph John Baronowski and Dorothy Romaine Serica.
He is survived by his brother, Michael J. Baronowski (Carol) of Alabama, and many nieces and nephews. April Torres (Miguel) of New Jersey, Brenda-Kibbee Baronowski of California, Vance Coffey Baronowski & Robert Lee Baronowski of Alabama, George Lewis Fechter IV of Georgia, David Samuel Fechter & John Micheal Fechter of South Carolina, Joseph Francis Fechter of Illinois.
From family- Uncle Tom was always a pleasant listening ear to family and friends, generously going out of his way to help others when in need. His southern accent, bubbly smile as well as his unique sense of humor could light up a room. Uncle Tom was a giver and true animal advocate. He will truly be missed so much.
From a Co-worker- Thomas was employed at the Hampton by Hilton Harbison where he worked as a Maintenance Technician. For the most part, Thomas wasn’t very complicated. He was a good person, and an insanely hard worker with a super fast wit. He would have everyone rolling with laughter wherever he was, whether it was his classic Dad Joke style or his quieter dark humor that was saved for those who would appreciate it. Even as he got older, you couldn’t stop him. He was the Energizer Bunny in human form… he just kept going and going. It was almost impossible to get him to use even his paid time off. And when he wasn’t at work, he was still somehow working, helping out all the cats and dogs in need, or helping people work on everything from cars to their homes. His passing has left a hole in the hearts of everyone he worked with. A bright flame gone too soon. His humor and his kindness will never be forgotten, and we are all so grateful to have had him in our lives for the time we did.
From Neighbors- Thomas was known throughout his life as a kind and selfless man who always went out of his way to help the voiceless. He made it his mission to care for the Stray cats that roamed the block, making sure they were fed and loved. He even set up makeshift shelters for them to keep warm during the cold winter months. His neighbors and friends admired Thomas for his good deeds, but it was his dedication to the homeless animals that truly touched their hearts. They knew they could always count on him to make sure every homeless cat and dog around him was taken care of. Thomas's actions may have seemed small in the grand scheme of things, but to the animals he saved, I'm sure they thought of him as a hero. In the end, Thomas may have been just a man, but to the animals he rescued, he was so much more. He was their Guardian angel, their protector, their saviour. And for that, he will always be remembered as a truly great man.
A small, private gathering will be held in the coming weeks to celebrate his life. Please reach out to his niece, April Torres for a date & time.
