Thomas Chase Scoggins

Thomas "Chase" Scoggins passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Chase was born on March 16, 1983, in Irmo to John Thomas Scoggins and the late Stephanie "Stevie" Derrick Scoggins.

Whether creating art, playing sports, or completing home improvement projects, Chase immediately excelled at any skill that required the use of his hands and a little precision. His most beloved place was on the water—ocean or lake, he didn't discriminate as long as he was in the familiar comfort of a boat with a cold beverage in hand.

Chase will be remembered by his family and close friends as a social butterfly who formed countless meaningful bonds that stood the test of time throughout his 42 years.

Chase is survived by his son, Bryson Thomas Scoggins; former wife, Chelsea Burnett Slaughter; and stepdaughter, Nevaeh Ann Mazzell, all of Lexington; his father, John Thomas Scoggins of Batesburg; sister, Tiffanie Scoggins Elsey of Irmo; and brother, Cole Brent Scoggins of Greenville. Chase was preceded in death by his mother, Stephanie Derrick Scoggins, and sister, Tabitha Scoggins Costenbader.

A memorial service honoring Chase's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Irmo, 7068 Nursery Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
