Viola D. Pebley

LITTLE MOUNTAIN - Viola “Vi” D. Pebley, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, November 20, 2013. She was born in Blaney, South Carolina, May 4, 1932, and was one of eight children of Herbert Rutledge and Sarah Nicolas Boykin.

Viola was the beloved wife of William “Bill” Pebley with whom she shared her life for 39 years. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband who was her primary caregiver until the end of her nine year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She is also survived by daughters, Bankie Shealy (Tullie) of Pomaria, SC, Shay Feaster (John) of Little Mountain, SC; son, Andy Derrick (Vicky) of Irmo SC; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Chip Derrick (Deborah).

Viola was a beautiful lady, a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She lived her life in accordance with Proverbs 31. She was “a wife of noble character”, “worked with eager hands”, “provided food for her family”, “set about her work vigorously; her arms strong for her tasks”, ”opened her arms to the poor and extended her hands to the needy”, “clothed with strength and dignity”, “watched over the affairs of her household and did not eat the bread of idleness.” “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her.” Simply stated, she was gracious, talented, generous, kind and hard-working.

God blessed Viola with many talents including home decorating, gardening, cooking, sewing, flower arranging, and landscaping. She was a successful business woman as a district manager with AVON for 32 years. After retirement, she and Bill were able to enjoy time traveling and doing the things they loved.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrew’s Chapel located at 5400 Bush River Road in Columbia. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with interment to follow at the Bush River Memorial Gardens.
