Aaron Hershel Jackson Sr.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at Parkhill Cemetery for family & friends with Pastor Hank Reeves officiating.

Aaron H. Jackson Sr. was born on June 25th, 1930 in Abbeville, AL. to Bessie Strickland Jackson and George Washington Jackson. As a boy he loved baseball, basketball & riding his bike. He played baseball for Jordan High School & worked at Strickland’s Grocery Store in Bibb City.

After serving 2 years in the Army he returned to Columbus where he started working for Columbus Manufacturing Co. later known as West Point Pepperell where he spent his entire career. He started out sweeping floors as a helper on the 3rd shift & later became a supervisor over the cloth room until he retired some 40 years later.

While working at Columbus Manufacturing Co. he played on their basketball & softball teams. The softball team he played on won many state championships & would go on to play in the Regional & World Championships in Clearwater, Florida.

Aaron was also an active member of the Masons at Mt. Hermon Lodge for over 55 years. He coached Little League & Babe Ruth baseball. In 1993 he was inducted into the Georgia ASA Softball Hall of Fame.

He loved his family & friends. He was a wonderful husband, loving & caring father, doting grandfather & great grandfather. He loved his wood craft work & made many things over the years that brought many smiles to everyone. He loved spending time with family & friends & always enjoyed making new friends along the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Strickland Jackson and George Washington Jackson, wife, Rhoda Ann Jackson, brothers Rubin Jackson and Marvin Howard Jackson, sisters Vera Casteel, Gladys Plant, Myrtle Johnson and Mildred Phillips, all of Columbus, Ga.

Survivors include his son, Aaron H. Jackson Jr, of Pensacola, Fl.; grandsons Alexander Taylor Jackson and Thomas Matthew Jackson of Pensacola, Fl.; great grandchildren Riah Jackson of St. Louis, Mo., Serena Jackson and Haze Keith Jackson all of Pensacola , Fl., and many nieces and nephews

I want to sincerely thank Piedmont Midtown Hospital as well as Dr. Harris, Dr. Kahn, Dr. Smith, Dr. Petrova, nurses Sam, Toby, Alyssa & the many nursing techs & all the employees that took such care of my dad. You all were wonderful looking after my dad & are are credit to your profession & the hospital. Thank you for all you do. - Aaron H. Jackson Jr.
