Adele McMath Turner, 81, of Columbus, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at her home. Following a private interment, a memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, August 25, 2011, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. The Reverend Dr. Edwin M. Cooper, Jr. will officiate, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The family will receive friends immediately after the memorial service in the church Fellowship Hall. A lifelong resident of Columbus, Mrs. Turner was born September 13, 1929, the only daughter of the late Hugh and Clara Martin McMath. She received her early education in the Columbus Public Schools and, following her graduation from Columbus High School, attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. On April 23, 1949 she married Hooper Alexander Turner. Mrs. Turner was active in many organizations to include the Junior League of Columbus, the Columbus Town Committee of the Colonial Dames, and the Thursday Bridge Club. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Mrs. Turner is survived by 2 daughters, Adele Turner Branch and her husband, Eddie, and Clara Turner Middlebrooks and her husband, Bart; 2 sons, Hugh McMath Turner and his wife, Eleanor, and Hooper Alexander Turner, Jr. and his wife, Katie; 10 grandchildren, Ricky Caldwell, Adele Caldwell, Hugh McMath Turner, Jr, Marci Turner, Ginny Turner, Hooper A. Turner, III, Elle Turner, Hallie Turner, Susan Middlebrooks, and Martin Middlebrooks; and two sisters-in-law, Nell Turner Spettel and Anne Turner. She also leaves a devoted circle of lifelong friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or to Columbus Hospice.
