

Arrangements under the direction of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.Adelheid “Ade” Vann, 79 of Columbus, GA passed away October 30, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. The family will welcome guests for visitation Thursday November 3, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Linwood Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday November 4, 2016 at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA with The Reverend Tony Dickerson officiating.
Ade was born May 20, 1937 in Oppeln, Germany to her late parents Paul and Francesca Hoyka. Her childhood and teenage years were during, and dealing with the aftermath of, WWII. As a young woman she met, fell in love with and married a handsome America GI named Harlan Clifford Gay. After starting a family in Germany, she left her homeland with her husband and moved to The United States. Later tragedy touched Ade’s life again when her career soldier husband died in 1972, during the Viet Nam conflict. Adelheid remarried to Darrel Anderson Vann who passed away in 2011. Both husbands were buried at Main Post Cemetery. She attended Pinehurst Baptist Church. Ade loved to take care of her family, her house, and her garden. She loved and lived for family. Family was very important to her. She loved when everyone was able to come together for holidays and birthdays.
Those left to cherish her memories are; her sister, Helga Hannah , and her children Connie and Duane Hannah, and Karen Griffin of Columbus GA; two sons, Daniel Gay, Henry Gay of Columbus, GA; one daughter, Mary and husband Kenneth Johnston of Carrollton, GA; grandchildren, Justin Galvis and His wife Nisha of Columbus, Sydney Johnston of Carrollton, G,, Olivia Gay, of Columbus, GA, great grandchildren Roman and Cali Galvis of Columbus, GA, Katyayani Mayhand of Columbus GA, grandson Justin and wife Liza Johnston and great granddaughter Azalea Johnston of Nolanville, TX; other family members and many friends.
