Adriana Gatto Marvets

Adriana Gatto Marvets, age 88, of Columbus, GA, died on Monday, November 19, 2018. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Bob Benko officiating. A rosary will be said at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, at 5:00 pm Friday, November 23, 2018 followed by a visitation until 7:00 pm.

Mrs. Marvets was born on April 17, 1930 in Trieste, Italy; the daughter of Giuseppe Gatto and Angela Tabacco Gatto. Adriana met her husband Bernard at the end of World War II. She was a member for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for over 58 years. She was very civic minded volunteering to better her community throughout her life, as a member of the South Columbus Concerned Citizens, a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, a Voting Precinct Manager for many years, as a Red Cross Volunteer, as a Regent Testing Proctor at Columbus State University, and she was a 2011 recipient of the Gartland Award, awarded for service offered to one’s community and parish.

Mrs. Marvets is preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Bernard and her son, Robert R. Marvets, three brothers, Gigi, Rino, and Gino Gatto; and two sisters Noemi Bainat and Iole Cazzador. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia M. (Brad) Godown, Angela E. Marvets; one daughter-in-law Teresea G. Marvets; three sons, John Paul (Norene) Marvets, David E. Marvets, Thomas G. (Teresa) Marvets; 17 grandchildren, B. G. (Jessica) Marvets, Tuesday (Bryan) Pritchett, Valerie (Joe) Johnstone, Eric P. (Sunny) Marvets, Courtney (Nate) Newton, Jay P. (Laura) Marvets, 1st LT John Andrew (fiancé Madison Turner) Marvets, Emma Marvets, Tanner Marvets, Adriana Godown, Daniella Godown, Robert Godown, Audra (Jimmy)Jackson, David E. (Kristi) Marvets, Christopher Marvets, Evelyn Marvets, Caitlyn Santiago, Rachel Phillips; Great grandchildren, Carly and Caroline Marvets, Austin, Mathew, Brinkley, Emerie and Hartley Pritchett, Journey Marvets, Hailey, Lexi and Johnny Newton, Austyn Ackeret, Jacob Joyner, Nicholas and Adriana Jackson, Hannah and Tripp Marvets, Wyatt Hallmark; a brother Benito Gatto; a brother-in-law Richard G. (Peggy) Marvets; by many nieces and nephews in Iowa, Italy, and Austalia.
