MSG (Ret) Alexander Wendell Jones, 87, of Columbus, GA passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will have a private visitation.
Mr. Jones, son of the late Gatha Delphia and Fred Donald Jones, was born December 30, 1928 in Jackson County, West Virginia. He served his country honorably in the U.S Army with tours in World War II and Vietnam Era Conflict as a Combat Engineer. Mr. Jones was a member of Pinehurst Baptist Church, a Mason with Ft. Benning Lodge #579 and member of the VFW. He loved his animals, working in the yard, enjoyed fishing and was an artist.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Blanchard Ruth Jones of Columbus, GA; sons Michael Jones of Phenix City, Al and Alex “Donny” Jones (Cynthia) of Brandon, MS; daughter Delphia “Dinky” Jones (fiancé Keith Cobb) of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren Michael Shawn Jones, Joseph D. Jones, Amanda L. Bryan, Amber N. Slater and Corey T. Ryan; great grandchildren Timothy, Matthew, Jude, Kailee, Khloey and Kaegan.
