Alice Fraser

Alice Watson Fraser December 13, 1925- April 4, 2015 Columbus, GA- Alice Watson Fraser passed away peacefully on April 4, 2015 at Spring Harbor, Columbus. She was 89 years old. Alice was born in West Point, Mississippi, to Thomas and Nina Clay Watson, and was the youngest of five children. She embraced her life as a military wife with Colonel (Ret.) Bruce Howard Fraser and four children. Alice always made fast friends at their many duty stations throughout the world. At any time, you could find her helping others by making them feel welcome, volunteering and riding her horses on adventure trails she hoped would never end. After Bruce retired from the US Army in 1973, they chose to live in Columbus and be near their many friends. Alice and Bruce enjoyed traveling the world and organizing summer activities for their grandchildren at "Camp Fraser." Alice volunteered at Callaway Gardens, where she provided tours of the Day Butterfly Center and shared her interest in native plants and animals for many years. Alice also served as President of the Columbus Museum Guild Gardeners, where she worked to restore Olmsted Gardens. Alice and Bruce were active members of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she served as the first female trustee and President of United Methodist Women.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years and is survived by her children: Michael Bruce Fraser, Thomas Jeffrey Fraser, Alicia Fraser Kessler, and Richard Howard Fraser, their spouses, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members who will always remember her kindness, grace and affectionate nature.

Alice's memorial and burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia where she will be buried with the love of her life. On Tuesday, April 7th from 3 - 4pm, a memorial celebration will be held at Spring Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2101 Wildwood Ave., Columbus, GA 31906
