Allen A. Daly, son of the late Allan E. Daly and Mary Elizabeth Daly, was born on July 7, 1939, in West Orange, New Jersey. He graduated from Lehigh University’s College of Business and Economics in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in Management and served for two years in the U.S. Army National Guard. He worked for more than three decades as a stockbroker, most recently with Janney Montgomery Scott, until retiring in 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Susan Daly Robinson, and brother Robert Daly.
His lifelong passion for fly fishing was kindled in his pre-teen years, and he began tying his own flies as a teenager. He would often describe himself as having been “vaccinated by a fishhook” and was fortunate enough to embark upon numerous fly fishing excursions with his fishing buddies to Alaska, Iceland, and countless adventures wherever the stream would take him, subscribing to the “catch-and-release” approach. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, and had many special interests including tending to his roses, writing poetry; reading; and calligraphy just to name a few.
Survivors include three children; daughter Elizabeth Daly Evans and her husband Keith Evans of Redington Beach, FL; son Patrick Allen Daly of Randolph, NJ; daughter Kathleen Daly Shand and her husband David Allan Shand of Columbus, GA; grandchildren Amanda Helene Evans, Alexis Kayla Daly, and Dawson Daly Shand; wife Olivia Jaugstetter of Pocono Lake, PA; Olivia’s children David Jaugstetter; James Jaugstetter and his wife Tammy; and Kristin Tremblay, as well as Olivia’s grandchildren Devin Tremblay, and Grace and Adam Jaugstetter, and many other wonderful close friends and fly fishing kindred spirits.
Allen’s children wish to express special thanks to our wonderful friends at Morningside Assisted Living of Columbus, especially Melissa Ryland and Alice Davis for all of the love and compassion they showed him when he was unable to live alone. They also want to sincerely thank Rob Rowsey, Jackie Easley, Maria Lira, Michael Davis, Edith Strickland, and Dexter Baldwin, as well as VistaCare Hospice, for their tireless efforts to keep him comfortable and well, and for Roy Olinger for helping him with the flies Allen tied in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, his children wish to request that donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association 5900 River Road, Columbus, GA, 31904 or Trout Unlimited, www.tu.org .
