Alto Spencer, Jr., a devoted and selfless individual, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 55. Born in Columbus, Georgia, on September 23, 1970, Alto led a life marked by service and dedication.
Alto's career was distinguished by his commitment to public service. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1991 to August 1996. Following his military service, he worked at the Muscogee County Prison as a Corrections Officer from July 1997 to February 2000. He then continued his career at the Fulton County Marshal's Office, serving as a Deputy from February 2000 until June 2011. Alto also served as a Deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Office from February 2012 to 2014.
In his personal life, Alto was a loving father to his children, Celeste Spencer, Makayla Spencer, and Madison Spencer. He is survived by his former wife, Sweet Caroline Spencer, his mother, Mattie Outlaw, his father, Alto Spencer, Sr. and his sisters, Alta B. Spencer and Alda B. Spencer. He was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews, Jhekhyler, Adryanna, Gregory, and Chandler. He shared a bond as close as siblings with his cousins, Alecia Stakley and Antonio Dixon. His life was further enriched by a host of loving aunts and uncles who stood by him throughout his journey: Gussie Howard (Roosevelt), Gloria Brown (Karl), Helen Dixon, Angie Dixon (Aaron), Floyd Dixon (Linda), and James Paschal.
Alto had a passion for baseball, having played at Boston Technical High School in 1990. He enjoyed shopping at the mall, watching television, particularly "Family Feud," listening to audiobooks, and visiting the gym at the YMCA. Above all, he cherished talking on the phone with his family and loved ones.
Funeral services for Alto Spencer Jr. are scheduled for 12:00 pm on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Greater Peace Baptist Church, located at 2821 8th St., Columbus, GA. Burial with Military honors will follow the service at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
Alto Spencer Jr.'s life was a testament to his dedication to his family, his community, and his country.
I'm never alone. We have a belief in the man upstairs-he's always with us. As long as we keep that belief he will never forsake us. Trust and believe in the Lord savior. Advice that I would share: take it one day at a time. Life goes on. I’m still here.
