Andrew Jackson Whitton Jr.

Andrew Jackson Whitton Jr., 72, of Midland, Georgia, passed away on December 4, 2016 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia. Funeral Services are scheduled on Thursday, December 8, 2016 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby on Wednesday evening, December 7, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm.

Mr. Whitton, son of the late Andrew Jackson Whitton and Vera Estelle Moore Whitton, was born August 3, 1944 in Columbus, Georgia where he was raised with his brothers and sisters on a dairy farm in the Midland area. Mr. Whitton retired as a Lead Hand for Atlanta Wire Company and also retired from American Insulated Glass. His pride and joy in life was his wife and raising his children. Mr. Whitton had met his beautiful wife, Carolyn Joyce Safford Whitton, while out dancing and had been together ever since. He drove trucks and enjoyed running a small grass cutting business with his boys. Mr. Whitton also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching old western films.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, James Patrick Whitton, Walter Sterling Whitton; and sister, Mary Christmas.

Mr. Whitton is survived by his loving wife of 31 years of marriage, Carolyn Joyce Safford Whitton; children, Andrew Jackson Whitton III, Matthew Patrick Whitton, Angela Elizabeth Whitton Dykes, Travis Lavon Dykes, Samuel Keith Whitton, Jason Dewayne Dykes; sister, Jean Ingram; brother, Kenny Whitton (Shirley); best friend and brother-in-law, James Carroll; seventeen grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren and other relatives.
