Anita Hunt Vann, 89, passed away May 4, 2013, in Valdosta, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, with Rev. Robert Beckum and Rev. Helen Berenthein officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Monday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and again Tuesday from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM in Stockwell Hall at St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Vann was born November 23, 1923, to the late Jefferson Brooks Hunt and Lucia Wier Hunt in Valdosta, GA. In 1945, Mrs. Vann married Carl W. Vann, Sr. to whom she was married for 61 years. She had been a faithful member of St. Luke UMC since 1959 when she moved to Columbus. Mrs. Vann served as president of the Shaw Sunday School Class and received the Quiet Disciple Award from St. Luke. She was also a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Columbus and the Philonian Club. Mrs. Vann was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Vann, Sr.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances Elaine Vann of Columbus, GA; two sons, Carl Vann (Cynthia Murray) of Marietta, GA and John Vann (Beth) of Bluffton, SC; six grandchildren, Jennifer Gay, Brandon Vann, Laura Vann and Amanda Vann, all of Atlanta, GA and Drew Vann and Sarah Vann, both of Bluffton, SC; a step-granddaughter, Cindy Akins of Aynor, SC; a brother, Jeff Hunt (Shirley) of Valdosta, GA; three sisters-in-law, Hilda Vann of Sasser, GA, Earlene Vann of Edison, GA, and Nan Barronton (Tom) of Valley Grande, AL and a brother-in-law, Sherman Vann of Virginia Beach, VA.
