Arthur "Art" Angell Jr.

Arthur “Art” Angell Jr, beloved broadcaster, businessman, philanthropist, and friend to so many, passed away on July 27, 2026 at the age of 88. Born on April 5, 1938, in Massachusetts, Art lived a life marked by service, generosity, and an unmistakable love for people.

Art’s journey brought him south through his military service, where he first came to Georgia. He eventually made Columbus his home after accepting a position with WRBL. It was there that his warm personality, quick wit, and unmistakable voice made him a familiar and beloved figure throughout the Chattahoochee Valley. As a local radio personality, Art became more than a broadcaster—he became a trusted companion to countless listeners and a true Columbus celebrity.

With the steadfast support of his devoted wife, Margaret, Art later fulfilled his dream of owning his own radio station. Together, they built not only a successful business but also a lasting legacy of serving their community.

Art believed deeply in giving back. His generosity touched many lives, and he was a proud supporter of Columbus State University, contributing to its mission of educating future generations. Whether through his philanthropy, his career, or simple acts of kindness, Art was always looking for ways to make life better for others.

Away from the microphone, Art found joy cheering on the Atlanta Braves, a team he faithfully supported through every season. He and Margaret also shared a love for RV travel, embracing the open road and creating treasured memories together wherever their adventures led.

Above all, Art will be remembered for his generous spirit, infectious smile, and genuine interest in everyone he met. His friendship, humor, and compassion left an enduring impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Art is preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret, his parents, Arthur Angell Sr and Mary Alice (McCarthy), and his sister, Rita Angell. He is survived by his beloved niece, Dianne Davis, along with many dear family, friends and members of the Columbus community whose lives were enriched by his kindness and generosity.

Though his voice has fallen silent, the impact of his life will continue to resonate throughout the community he loved so dearly. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
