Ann, please accept my sincerest condolences.  It was a true pleasure to serve with Art in Charlie Company, 1st Bn 325th Infantry at Fort Bragg.  Jessie Marie and I are so sorry for your loss.

Anne, David, Craig, and families:  I am devestated both personally and professionally by Art's loss.  He was without a doubt the most passionate and dedicated-to-mission civil servant I ever saw at Ft Benning in the 30 plus years I served there.  He went in harm's way three times to Iraq and once to Afghanistan as part of that dedication to make sure our soldiers got the best possible doctrine.  I watched his dedication to duty as he continued to come to work even though it was obvious he did not feel like it when he was going through his first round of chemotherapy several years before he retired.  Several years ago, he went to Sydney as part of a ABCA Armies' Work Team.  I came down a week later for a program planning meeting with the same organization and worked with many of the same officers/staff with whom Art had worked.  I was told numerous times how valuable Art's input had been and how well he represented the USArmy/Infantry!  That was always the case anytime Art went anywhere for the Army!  When we both linked up again at Benning, I asked Art if he got out to do any sightseeing.  "Not really," he said.  Most of the time after the day's work was done, he went to his room worn out because he was still taking the chemo even on the trip down there.  But he would always summon up energy to do the good work he went down there to do....to his great credit and to the credit of this great country that he loved so dearly!    In addition to my great respect for his devotion to duty, please know that I came to value Art as a great friend and confidant.  We shared many interest in common and could debate pros and cons with passion on many issues.  No matter how tough a day could be on the job, Art was always there to help out and provide guidance.  I will miss him greatly and will always remember that he passed on Veterans's Day....he is in the company of Warriors and Patriots as I know he would have wanted!  You all can be very proud of him....he was proud of you!
