Arthur served his country with steadfast dedication, completing basic training at Fort Knox, KY, and on-the-job training at Fort Benning, GA. During his years in the Armed Forces, he worked as a cook in the army military service for 11 years and also served in the Armed Forces for 10 years. His service was recognized with two Army Commendation medals, two good conduct medals, a medal for service in Vietnam, and a national defense ribbon—honors that reflect a life marked by discipline, commitment, and quiet pride in duty.
After serving, Arthur continued to invest in his future, receiving his GED during his time in the army. He later graduated from American River College in Sacramento, California, earning an associate's degree in arts—an achievement that spoke to his determination and steady pursuit of personal growth.
After military service, Arthur carried that same work ethic into civilian life, taking on a variety of roles, including Ford Assembly worker, stock boy, security guard, sign worker, and cab driver. Through each season of work, he demonstrated resilience and a willingness to do what was needed, meeting life with practical strength and perseverance.
Beyond his responsibilities, Arthur found joy in the simple pleasures of time well spent. He loved playing board games and cards—especially gin, bridge, and blackjack—and he also loved to venture to the casino. His enduring passion, however, was karate. It was his main interest and a lifelong pursuit: he won competitions and continued his devotion to martial arts until he became a grandmaster of all karate's, a testament to years of focus, discipline, and unwavering commitment.
Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. Green, and his companion, Margie Boswell. He is survived by his two daughters, Shonda D. Green (Joseph Glenn) and Wyonda Edmond (Robert); two grandchildren, Stanquon J. Green and Sa'nayja J. Green; and two special nieces, Elizabeth Juarez and Stephanie Douglas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and family. Above all, Arthur always had a love for family and friends, and his memory will be carried forward with respect, gratitude, and enduring affection by those who knew him.
