
Augusta Andrews Burrus was born April 26, 1919, in Columbus, Georgia, daughter of Tom Andrews, Jr. and Mabel Pearce Andrews, both of Columbus. She attended 16th St. School and graduated from Columbus High School. She was a 1940 graduate of Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, where she majored in history. She had a love of sports, gardening, animals and most especially, children. She taught kindergarten for 11 years at Waldrop Baptist Church, and loved every day she spent with her students. She was pre-deceased by her youngest sister, Mabel Pearce Andrews, and her husband of 40 years, Felix Jacob Burrus, Sr. She is survived by her children, Jake Burrus, (Julie Adams Burrus) and Margaret Burrus, both of Columbus, GA and Embry Burrus, of Auburn, Alabama, two grandsons, Jake Burrus, III and Max Burrus , two Beloved sisters, Katharine Andrews Triplitt and Isabel Andrews Triplitt;, numerous nieces and nephews, and two special caregivers, Brenda Tolliver and Gail Mullins. A memorial service will take place at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 First Avenue, Columbus, Georgia on Sunday, January 18, at 2:00 p.m. Family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Gathering Hall at First Presbyterian. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics, Columbus Hospice, or the First Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministry.
