Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA. Barbara’s Celebration of Life will begin at 10am with funeral service at 11 am in Edgewood Hall with Pastor Mike Koger of Crawford Methodist Church. Following the service the committal and interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
Barbara Harvard was born on Saturday, August 16, 1930 in Columbus, GA. to the late William Houston Stewart and Ida Mae Williams Stewart.
Mrs. Harvard and her late husband Carl Virgil Harvard were active charter members of Sherwood Methodist Church, Columbus, GA. They also belonged to Crawford Methodist and Living Grace. Their faith and devotion to the Lord built lifelong friends.
She was a strong advocate for every child to be able to read; therefore, started a “children of inmates” reading outreach program in the prison ministry of Columbus, GA. She also hand scribed and created 1000’s of greeting cards over the years as part of her outreach to the USO. She was a big supporter of the Open Door Community House and other Columbus charities. She has blessed everyone she meets with her giving heart and love of God.
Throughout the years, Mr. and Mrs. Harvard owned several businesses but were most known for Valley Paint and Wallcovering in Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL.
She is survived by her three Children: Donna Harvard Harper (Sonny), Stewart Harvard (Candy), Penny Harvard Tallis (Keith), 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren.
