Funeral services are scheduled at Main Post Cemetery, 6551 Fort Benning Blvd, Fort Benning, GA on Thursday, June 14, 2012, 11 a.m. with Rev. (Dr.) Don Wilhite officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 6-8 p.m.
Mrs. Winchester, daughter of the late Claude Mack Swift and Flossye Evergreen Higgenbotham Swift, was born July 12, 1945 in Gary, IN. She was born in Gary, IN but grew up on a farm in Morrison, TN. Mrs. Winchester was employed as Chief Nurse Anesthetist at Doctors Hospital and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She also traveled to the Dominican Republic on numerous occasions to medically assist on mission trips. Mrs. Winchester also loved to travel and visited Russia, much of Western Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Holy Land.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Roland Winchester and a sister, Claudia Ann Swift-McCarthy. Mrs. Winchester is survived by one daughter, Tammy Kaye Cantrell and her husband Kevin of Cataula, GA; grandson, Ryan Cantrell of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Lauren Cantrell of Cataula, GA; extended family members; many cherished friends; and colleagues.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Attn: Church Mission Fund, 7556 Old Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
