Thomas Benjamin McCosh, lovingly known as Ben, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, one day after celebrating his 88th birthday. Born on October 10, 1937, in Columbus, Georgia, Ben was a lifelong resident of his hometown and a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Columbus.
Ben graduated from Columbus High School, in 1955 and immediately joined the Naval Reserves. In 1956, he went into active duty and served his country for four years in the United States Navy as a flight engineer, and then as a reservist until 1960. After his service, he began a long and successful career at Lummus Industries, where he worked for 41 years and retired in 1999 as Executive Vice President over International Sales.
Ben married Connie G. McCosh whom he adored, in 1961. They were married 40 years until her passing in 2001. In 2002, he married Annelle C. McCosh, and they shared 23 wonderful years together.
Ben was a man of deep integrity and quiet strength — a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a trusted friend to many around the world. He cherished his family above all and was known for his integrity, generosity, and his love for traveling. He also enjoyed cooking, trying new foods and entertaining. Whether traveling or gathering around the table, Ben brought people together with his love for life and good food.
Ben is survived by his wife, Annelle McCosh; his daughters, Melanie Wright (Paul) and Stephanie Cox (Jay); grandchildren, Benjamin Woodill, Stephen Woodill (Shannon), and Ashley Cox; his siblings, Louis McCosh (Julie), Jim McCosh (Cathy), and Bebe Cole (Bob). He is also survived by his stepson, John Prince (Cecilia); six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie McCosh; his parents, Lois and Tom McCosh; his sister, Marjorie Buchanan; and stepdaughter, Jane Seckinger.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be held at 11:00 on Friday, October 24th at First Baptist Church, Columbus, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to First Baptist Church of Columbus and Columbus Hospice.
Ben lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. His legacy will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
