cancer in which she fought hard, never complained and always had her smile. She was born on
March 5, 1946 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Idella and Edwin Weininger and grew up in
High Point, NC. Kay’s love of teaching others is evident in her over 30-year teaching career in
Columbus, Georgia. After retirement, she and her husband Mickey enjoyed traveling
throughout the United States and abroad including trips to their beach home in Panama City
Beach, FL. She enjoyed playing with her Canasta and Mahjong groups, dining with her lunch
bunch, learning with the Century Club and involvement with Shearith Israel Synagogue. She
treasured her time with family and friends creating lasting memories.
Survived by her husband of 56 years, Marvin (Mickey) Witt, daughters Michelle Faircloth
(Rodney) and Kim Overstreet (Jim), granddaughters Ragan Faircloth, Sarah Carlisle Overstreet,
Riley Faircloth and Mary John Overstreet and sister, Gail Niles. She is preceded in death by her
sister Shelly Weininger.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Piedmont North Hospital for their compassionate
care of Kay throughout her illness.
A graveside service will be held at Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus on Sunday, March 26 at
11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Paul and
Miriam Witt Family Scholarship Fund at Columbus State University or Shearith Israel
Synagogue.
