Bessie “Bess” K. Gibson, age 96, resident of Columbus, passed away at her home and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, 11 a.m. with Reverend (Dr.) Kevin Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus from 10am-11am on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
Mrs. Gibson, daughter of the late Simon Peter Kimbro and Fannie Sorrells Kimbro, was born May 29, 1921 in Crenshaw County, Alabama. She was one of eleven children, had unconditional love for her family, an amazing woman, and loved the Lord with all her heart. Mrs. Gibson was a homemaker and member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church. She was part of the “Mighty Nineties” and a member of the Maranatha Sunday School class.
Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her husband, Barslow Gibson and nine siblings. She is survived by three daughters, Yvonne Melvin and her husband Harold of Lee County, Georgia, Janice Cole and her husband Curtis of Columbus, and Diane Osteen and her husband Rick of Merritt Island, Florida; two sons, Rickey Gibson and his wife Pam of Columbus, and Ken Gibson and his wife Robin of Hamilton, Georgia; one sister, Mary Smallwood of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Kristin Massey, Richie Osteen, Mandy Chaplin, Stephanie Lepore, Laurie Priban, Zachary Gibson, Jennifer Odom, and Jessica Redding; 14 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
