Columbus, Georgia- Betty Jo Slaughter Bynum, 78, of Columbus, Georgia died Monday, August 25, 2014 in Midtown Medical Center.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Parkhill Cemetery with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating according to Striffler - Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bynum was born September 20, 1935 in Columbus, Georgia the daughter of the late William Benjamin Slaughter, Jr. and the late Martha DeLamar Slaughter. She had lived in Columbus most of her life and retired as a teacher from Wynnton Elementary School.
Mrs. Bynum was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus, member and chaplain of Oglethrope Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, and a graduate of University of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill F. Bynum.
Mrs. Bynum is survived by her aunt, Helen DeLamar Edwards (Orlo) of Jackson, TN; four first cousins, Jane Kendrick Blackmar, Rebecca Kendrick Yarbrough (Sidney, III), Thomas K. Kendrick, Jr. (Liz) all of Columbus, GA, and Richard D. Edwards (Joannie) of Dyer, TN; as well as many other relatives and dear friends.
