Betty Sue Dupriest, 89, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Ridgecrest Skilled Nursing Center. Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, Georgia on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Chapel Service will begin at 3:00 pm, with Brother Don Wilhite officiating. A graveside committal will immediately follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Betty lived her life by serving others. She spent many years fitting customers for orthopedics at Harvey’s Orthopedic Services, feeding children loving meals at The Growing Room Child Development Center, and feeding her customers at Linwood Lunch. She was always ready to provide her friends a ride to Sunday school, doctor’s appointments, or to sit in support with loved ones battling illnesses.
She showed her love and devotion to her family and friends through her incredible cooking. Once she knew your favorite food she would happily make it for you over and over. Her family was the lucky recipient of countless chocolate cakes, coconut cakes, banana nut breads, pots of macaroni and cheese, chicken and dumplings, and collard greens.
Betty taught her family the value of an honest day’s work. Her granddaughters grew up spending days helping at Dupriest Grocery where the work day started at 5:00 am helping to make homemade sausage biscuits for the customers and the afternoons were spent stocking shelves, learning to count change at the register, collecting bait for the fishermen, and sneaking Yoo-Hoos out of the cooler when Grandma wasn’t looking.
Betty loved her family and was happiest as she sipped cup after cup of coffee while being surrounded by her sons and their children and grandchildren. She would want to be remembered as “Grandma” to everyone. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Henry Dupriest; son Frank Dupriest; and daughters-in-law Margaret Dupriest and Sarah Kay Dupriest.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons Richard, Dave, and Michael (Sharon) Dupriest; daughter-in-law Kathy Dupriest; brother Ken (Shawn) Woodruff; 5 granddaughters; and 12 great-grandchildren.
