Betty met and eventually married her husband O’Dell Hightower at a local Dairy Queen in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. This led to a lifelong marriage of 39 years until her passing. Never leaving each other’s side, they met all obstacles that life can present and continued to kept the faith with each other, no matter what life threw at them.
Betty worked for the Army, Airforce Exchange Services across the United States. Receiving several awards over her 20-year service, she finished her last assignment at Ft. Benning, Georgia where she became ill.
Betty is survived by her spouse O’Dell, her daughter Athena, her son Alexander, her grandchildren DeAngelo, Shamond, Jacobi, and Zion. Her mother Joyce Ferry of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, her sisters and their spouses, Cheryl and John Sims, Barbara and Gregorio Martinez-Pagan Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Michelle and Bill Scoggins of Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
Betty is also survived by in-laws Pearlie Mae Hightower, Allen and Doris Hightower, Carol Hightower, Arlene Womack, Sharrod and Sonja Hightower all of Ada, Oklahoma.
Betty is proceeded in death by her father Eugene Wright, Stepfather Fred Ferry, her brother Johnny C. Wallace, Mister Jimmy Hightower, (O’Dell’s Grandfather who told O’Dell to marry Betty), Father In-law O’Dell Hightower Sr. and Brother In-law O’Neal Hightower.
Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews that loved and cherished her warm smile, her valued advise, her quick come-backs to make you laugh and loving presence that constantly made her a joy to be around.
