Betty Marie Johnson, of Midland, Georgia passed on September 26, 2026, at the age of 89. A Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Fisher Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, on September 29, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm; A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm.
Betty was born on August 31, 1937, in Eastman, Georgia; the daughter of Bennie and Lillie Mae Butler. Betty married the love of her life, Winford Willis Johnson on December 21, 1954, in Hawkinsville, Georgia. She built a life marked by steady devotion, quiet strength, and a deep commitment to the people she loved.
Betty was a member of Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church in Columbus, Georgia. In her youth, Betty played piano at her childhood church in Chester, GA. She loved God and exhibited true Christian values throughout her life.
Over the years, Betty served with diligence and care in a variety of roles: Civil Service at Warner Robins AFB as a Drafting Clerk; Muscogee County Superior Court as a Deputy Deed Clerk; Office Manager for Johnson Dump Trucks; Co-Owner of BMJ Trucking; and as General Administrator and Concessions Manager for 441 Speedway and Cochran Motor Speedway. In each setting, she brought reliability, capable hands, and a sense of responsibility that others could count on.
Betty was at her best in the simple, lasting work of loving well—offering support, encouragement, and a steady presence to family and friends. She was a faithful wife, a loyal friend, and, by all who knew her, an exceptional mother and grandmother. Though she could seem shy at first, Betty had a rare gift for making connections; she never truly met a stranger and could talk with anyone about anything.
Her days were brightened by the things she enjoyed most: crafting of all kinds, trying new recipes she discovered on Facebook, and sharing laughter over games of Phase 10 and Mexican Train. She also loved watching westerns on television and treasured time spent antique and thrift shopping with her girls. With a keen eye for fashion and home décor, Betty brought warmth and style to the spaces and moments she touched.
Betty is preceded in Death by: her father Bennie Lee Butler; mother, Lillie Mae Lee; husband, Winford Willis Johnson; and son, Dewayne Winford Johnson.
