Betty Smith, 80, of Columbus, GA passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Columbus Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at Striffler-Hamby in Edgewood Hall with Pastor Andy Ginn officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, 2019 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
Mrs. Smith was born March 16, 1938 in Columbus, GA, the daughter of the late Jack and Tiny Lollar. Betty attended Jordan High School and graduated in 1957. A few years later she went on to marry her loving husband James in May of 1963. They spent forty two wonderful years together before his passing. She was a church secretary at Northside Baptist Church for over twenty years. Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of 13th Ave. Sanctified Church of Christ and in her later years she attended St. Mark UMC. She enjoyed being a homemaker taking care of her loving family and crocheting. Later in life she found great joy in spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Roland “Bud” Bush; sister Nell Vaught; and nephew Charles Sadlo. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Butler (Brady); son, Norman Smith (Jill); daughter in law, BJ Smith; grandchildren, Nate Smith, Riley Smith, James Butler, and Caleb Smith; brother, Sonny Lollar (Bobbie Ann); sister, Barbara Malphus; sister in law, Lyndall Bush. Mrs. Smith also leaves behind numerous other family members and friends.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA 31907. The family is asking that donations be made to Columbus Hospice in lieu of flowers.
