Born to Edward and Elizabeth Morgan, January 23, 1937, JaNet had many passions in this life. A graduate of Jordan High School in Columbus, GA, she went on to own and operate a successful tax and bookkeeping business, Wages Bookkeeping and Tax Services. She and her late husband, Gerald also owned the Lil’ Chief Restaurant which served the community for many years. She held many titles throughout her career, but none she held more seriously that the title of dutiful wife and mother. In retirement, she served many local charities and for many years served as the chair of Mother’s March. Later in life, she expanded her love of travel and ballroom dancing. JaNet had a feisty spirit and a quick wit. She was generous with those that she loved, sharing her knowledge and kindness freely.
JaNet was preceded in death, by her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Morgan, her husband of 50 years, Richard Gerald Wages, her daughter Patricia “Jan” McGrotha, niece Kimberly Barbay and grandsons Zachariah Wages and Jacob Anderson. She is survived by favorite Aunt, Barbara Walker, her sister, Kathy Barbay, daughter, Teressa Luther (Mike) and her son, Richard Wages. Also survived by her grandchildren, Chris McGrotha (Tammy), Brian Luther (Lindsay), Nicki McGrotha, Jeremy Wages, Brittany Jones (Brett), Steven Wages, and Gracie Wages. Janet, always the matriarch of the family, presided over 5 generations of family including 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her husband, Fred Norris, and his daughters Denise Moon (Terry) Nance Seifert and Joy Anderson (Scott Baker) and grandson James Seifert, Jr (Viki).
The family will have a private graveside service on Tuesday August 22, 2023, at Park Hill Cemetery at 10am. The family will receive condolences and friends at a private family residence, 4714 Timarron Loop in Columbus, GA from 4pm to 6pm Tuesday, August 22, 2023. The family would like to express thanks to all of those who provided love and support but, especially the wonderful staff and providers of St. Francis- Emory Hospital who provided compassionate care.
