Bill Richard Lee, 86, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
Bill was born on December 29, 1938, in Headland, Alabama to Annie and John Lee. After graduating high school at Baker High, he then went on to serving in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1957-1960 as the 560th Engineer Battalion, Armored Division where he served as a specialist. Most people know him by his nickname, “The Mailman” for his service as a USPS Postal Worker before his retirement after 45 years. Others called him “The Dragon” due to his love for playing pool (which he was great at). A follower in Christ, he was a member of Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church for many years where he was baptized in 1975.
He loved everything in life from his children and grandchildren to his dogs, Griffin and Daisy. His family and friends meant the world to him including his best friend, Dave Welch. Bill was always cracking jokes wherever he went no matter the situation. He loved making jokes during sad times to lighten the mood and had the best sense of humor anyone could have.
Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Doris St. John; his brother, Thomas Lee, and his mother, Annie Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, Leigh Ann Lee McCart (Michael); his son, Randall Justin Lee; his grandchildren, Alec Hamric, Hannah McCart, and Josiah McCart; his sisters, Linda Lee Grimes (Jim) and Helen Lee Hobbs and many nieces and nephews.
Dad would always say, “Live life to the fullest, you never know how much time you have” and secondly, “The storms of life always pass.” ❤️
