

A graveside service will be held in Parkhill Cemetery on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the St. Elmo Room at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, Georgia.
Billy Maurice Jones was born on September 18, 1932 in Center, Texas to the late Milton Vasco Jones and Robbin Lee Steele Jones. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Army and served his country faithfully for over 23 years, retiring as Staff Sargent. During his service to his country he served during the Korean War, with two tours and the Vietnam War, with one tour of duty, he was awarded numerous medals to include the Silver Star. Mr. Billy was married to his loving wife, Avery Lee Leonard Jones on May 4, 1955, they were married for 61 years, a few days shy of 62 years of marriage. After retiring from the U.S. Army he worked with AAW Dump Truck as a dispatcher for 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his legacy to his wife, Avery L. Jones; his daughter, Debbie Montgomery and her husband Dan of Columbus; his granddaughters, Lindsay Deanna Montgomery, Elizabeth Danielle Montgomery Harris (Marcus) of Columbus, and Chandra Ilia Montgomery Rivas (Tony) of Panama City, FL; his great-grandchildren: Cordelia Harris, NaSir Harris, NyAsia Harris, NaSceus Harris, Natasha Harris, Marcus Harris, Naliyah Harris, Zoe Rivas, Julian Rivas, and Isabella Rivas; his first cousin, Norris Long of Baytown, Texas.
