Obituary of Bruce J. Stevens
Bruce Jeffrey Stevens, 65, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on August 7, 2022. A small family celebration will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2022. Bruce Stevens was born July 11, 1957, in Ozark, Alabama. He grew up in the Tabernacle Community and New Brockton, Alabama. He was a devout Christian and earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible and Missions at Southeastern University in 1979. He also studied computer science at Enterprise State Junior College and Troy State University in the 1980’s, and studied medical billing and coding at Columbus State University in 2011. Bruce fervently loved God and was passionately devoted to his family and especially his wife, Kathy. He loved playing the guitar and keyboard, and he sang like an angel. He loved reading, gardening, birdwatching, photography, drawing, dancing, long motorcycle rides, and visiting state parks and anything that sparked his interest, even cemeteries which were rich in history. He was kind, compassionate and a friend to all. He had a constant curiosity and was a life-long learner. His family considered him wise and were often amazed at his ability to convey facts on even the most obscure topics. He was a great storyteller and had a robust sense of humor. Words cannot express how much his family will miss him. He is in the company of Jesus and the angels. Bruce is preceded in death by his father, Alvin Stevens; mother, Maxine Stevens; and father-in-law, Norman Nutter. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Stevens; children, Bethany Fields (Matt), Jason Wetzstein (Diana), Trent Lawrence (Melissa); grandchildren, Mason Fields, Daniel Fields Kyleigh Wetzstein, and Brooke Wetzstein; sister, Mena Lunsford (Charles); uncle, Dalton Jacobs; aunt, Linda Thrasher; mother-in-law, Susan Nutter; sisters-in-law, Andrea White (Pete), Sherri Stansbury (Jeff); brother-in-law, Stephen Nutter (Christi). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bruce may be sent to Wounded Warriors, Tunnels to Towers, Shriners, or the Aflac Cancer Center.
