Carl Leroy Gilliam, Jr., of Catula, GA passed away on February 7, 2025. Born in Granite Falls, NC on May 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Lona Victoria Lowrance (Polly) Edge and Carl Leroy Gilliam, Sr.
A visitation for friends and family will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 1:30PM in the Chapel with a funeral service following at 2:00PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus Georgia 31907. A Burial will take place at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907 following the service at the funeral home.
Carl grew up in Hickory, North Carolina where he loved the snow covered mountains. As a teen he moved to Columbus, GA becoming an architectural draftsman after serving in the United States Air Force.
Carl retired from Lowe's where he served as a dedicated store manager throughout his career growing his company. His work took him to Texas, Mississippi, Alabama with a final return to Georgia.
Carl loved horseshoes and enjoyed a friendly game or a competitive tournament. A man of great talents, Carl was known for his incredible drawings and paintings, which showcased his creative spirit. He had a passion for antique cars and woodworking, often spending time in his workshop crafting gifts for family and friends..
Carl was a man of quiet strength and strong faith. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, friends, and the many lives he touched. He will live in our hearts forever.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his sisters, Joy Dean Gilliam Stamey, Nancy Josephine Gilliam Walker, Brenda Gilliam Evans, and his brother, Roger Gilliam.
Carl is survived by Jane McKoon Gilliam and his two daughters, Kelley Gilliam Sparks (Landon) of Forsyth, GA, and Carla McKenzie of Martinez, GA. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Scarlet McKenzie, Cameron Sparks, and Laney Sparks.
