Fran was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 18, 1938 to Mr. and Mrs. John E. Sloan. She graduated from Ahrens Trade School in 1956, and started her career with Southern Bell. She met the love of her life, Mark Pharis and married March 13, 1960. They enjoyed 51 anniversaries together. She was a loving caregiver to her husband Mark prior to his death in 2011. She and Mark enjoyed rearing two devoted children, Mark and Lisa.
She loved being a mother and caring for her family. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Her support was felt at ball fields, swim meets, scouting and school activities. She felt blessed to see her grandchildren flourish into adulthood.
She was a faithful member of Morningside Baptist Church for 52 years. Through the years she enjoyed singing in the choir, supporting the food service ministry, and helping in the church library. Many memories were made over coffee with friends after Sunday night services.
For 32 years she worked as an Executive Secretary for Litho-Krome(Hallmark). After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Saint Francis hospital, over 2500 hours over the years. In her down time she enjoyed keeping up with her grandchildren, crocheting, reading, sudoku, and the beach.
During her time at The Gardens of Calvary she was best known as ‘the coffee lady’. Her family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the loving care extended by the entire staff. They have been a true blessing during this difficult time.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Mark Raymond Jr., her parents; John E. Sloan and Mary Frances Sloan, her brother; John Edward Sloan, and her nephew Jeffrey Thomas Sloan.
Fran is survived by her children; Mark R. Pharis III (Christine) and Lisa P. Allardice (Brian), granddaughter; Emily Sloan Allardice, grandson; David Mark Pharis, younger brother; Tom Sloan (Nadene), and nieces; Jennifer Browder (Tim) and Jessica Brannon (Mark), great niece Mia Browder, Brother-in-law; Bill Pharis (MaryJo), multiple nieces and nephews, and many beloved family and friends.
