Charles Lewis "Pete" Moore was born November 30, 1932, and passed from this life on April 19, 2018. His wife Martha Emily Brooks Moore preceded him in death after 64 years of marriage. Pete is also preceded in death by his brother-in-laws, Jimmy Watson and Terrell Brooks.
His devotion was not limited to his family. He demonstrated a quiet, steadfast community spirit, being: a proud 1st Field Sargent for the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, a member of the American Institute of Banking, an Executive member of the International Consumer Credit Association, a former President of Southeastern Recovery Association (78-79), a Jaycee, a Lion's Club member, a winner of the 15 year Monarch Award, a winner of Lion of the Year (85-86), and President of the Lion's Club (86-87).
He loved his former church, Eastern Heights Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon. His membership at First Baptist Church, and his friendship with his pastor, Jimmy Elder, gave him great peace in good times and bad times. When his health permitted, he worked with the Meals on Wheels and Young in Heart Ministries.
He will be remembered for his devotion, his quick wit, his creative mind, his seemingly effortless ability to meet and make friends, and by his love for his family. At the end, as Paul wrote in the second letter to Timothy, "the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith."; as Pete joins his wonderful wife, Emily, he can look forward to the "Crown of Righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award me on that day".
He leaves his grieving daughters Charlee (Gerald) Hendrix and Wendy (Tommy) Montgomery, grandchildren Tom (Bethany) Montgomery, Lacey (Garrett) Bosely, and Mark (Stephanie) Golden; sister-in-laws, Charlotte Watson and Gail Brooks; and three great grandchildren, Harper Ann Montgomery, Brody Paul Bosely, and Lachlan Cypress Golden.
Through all of their heartache, Mr. Moore's family would like to express their extreme gratitude to KLA Medical Services and their staff owned by Kathy and Lester Andrews. Also, to the CNAs who became family over the past three years who saw them through every bad day, good day, and moments of hardship, Donner Hunt and Nikki Clark, it's kind hearts like yours that make the hard times easier. Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do.
Pete's family would like to visit with friends and loved ones in Striffler-Hamby's Edgewood Hall on Monday, April 23, 2018, from 10 to 11 in the morning. Also in Striffler-Hamby's Edgewood Hall, the family will honor his memory in a funeral service on Monday, April 23, 2018, at 11 in the morning with Mr. Moore's friend and pastor, Rev. Jimmy Elder officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to either 1st Baptist Church, 212 12th Street Columbus, Georgia, or the Safe House Ministries, 2101 Hamilton Road Columbus, Georgia, in Pete's honor.
