Charlotte was born in Columbus Georgia on August 19, 1931. She was the daughter of George Mortimer Adams and Lillie Belle Kimbrough Adams. She was the only daughter and had four brothers. She attended Columbus High School, graduating in 1948. She attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia and was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation, she became a school teacher teaching English in Columbus.
Charlotte met the love of her life, Jimmy Clark, in Columbus and were married on June 9, 1962. They were married for 60 years before Jimmy passed away in 2022 at the age of 95. They were blessed with three children, Charlotte, Jim and Will and 13 grandchildren. The children and grandchildren were Charlotte’s most precious blessings. She loved watching their sporting events, taking trips to the beach and spending time at the lake and farm. Charlotte loved to waterski and taught her children and many nieces and nephews how to slalom and trick ski. Charlotte was an avid gardener and loved to spend time in her flower and vegetable gardens. It brought her so much joy to share her tomatoes with neighbors and friends. She loved to grow her own cucumbers and make pickles to share with her friends.
Charlotte loved sports, especially tennis. She grew up playing tennis with her four brothers at their homestead in North Columbus, which later became the Columbus Botanical Garden. Charlotte was also ping-pong champion at Nankipooh School. And she loved rooting for Georgia Tech with Jimmy at football and basketball games. Some of her most special times were spent with her family at the Adams farm at Twin Springs Plantation, where she enjoyed fishing, water skiing, and walking in the woods. She also loved spending time with her beloved Cavalier dogs, Judge, Pete and Re-Pete! She loved to spend time on the farm and also at their lake house on Lake Harding.
Charlotte was the epitome of a sweet southern lady. She was an active member of the National Association of Colonial Dames of America, Junior League of Columbus, and Pierce Chapel. She was a founding member and board of director of the Columbus Botanical Garden, which was her childhood home. She was a longtime member of St Luke United Methodist Church, Columbus, Georgia, where she and her husband attended service each Sunday and sat in the same pew each week. Charlotte was an example to her family and friends of a faithful Christian woman. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her abiding love, faith, generosity and character were her greatest gifts to her husband, children and grandchildren.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her husband, James Clinton Clark, Sr, her parents (George and Lillie Belle Adams), and three of her brothers, (George, Ed and Philip Adams).
