Claire Arrington, 90, of Cumming, Georgia, former longtime resident of and an active member of Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Columbus, Georgia, died at home on May 12th with her family at her side.. She was born September 30, 1927 in Mauch Chunk, now Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Clara Gallagher. She was married to the late Paul Calhoun Arrington, Sr on October 7, 1944.
She is survived by Donna Berry (Robert), Barbara Arrington, Paul Arrington, Fran Arrington, Cheri Fulginiti.
Nine grandchildren, Susan Arp (Rob), Robert Berry (Kristina), Catherine Clark (Shane), Barbara Rodriguez (Michael), Major Andrew Arrington (Allison), Blake Arrington, Della Knowles (Josh), Laura Arrington and Amanda Arrington.
Nineteen Great grandchildren. One brother, Ronnie Gallagher and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, son Lawrence Arrington; great granddaughter Lawren Knowles; brothers Francis Gallagher, Jack Gallagher, Jimmy Gallagher; sisters, Grace Boyle, Josephine Flannagan, Irene Mann, and Patricia Smith.
Claire spent 29 years with Saint Anne’s Community Outreach serving as the director for 16 years. Her life was one of service to her Church and community. On December 3, 2000 she was given the Bishop Gartland Service Award in recognition for her outstanding contribution to the life and work of the Church in the Diocese of Savannah. Her Irish heritage was a source of great pride and her family brought her tremendous joy. She especially loved the time spent with her Great Grandchildren. They will always remember her teasing them with a smile.
Visitation will be at Striffler Hamby on Macon Road Sunday May, 20th from 4-6 with rosary following.
Mass of Christian burial Monday May 21th 10 am St. Anne’s Catholic Church Kay Circle, Columbus with burial in Parkhill Cemetery.
