IN THE CARE OF
Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Columbus
Clyde “J.R.” Winkton Humphrey Jr., age 70, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022. A visitation for family and friends of Clyde is to be held Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
J.R. was born November 11, 1951 in Columbus, Georgia; the son of Clyde W. Humphrey, Sr. and Maggie Fogarty Humphrey. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Jordan High School. He was married to Pamela Sue Dorminey. J.R. was a member of Cornerstone Church of God and had worked at both Whatley Oil Company and Freeway Ford. Clyde lived his life the way he wanted to, he was independent, loving, kind, patient, compassionate, knowledgeable, humble, and a jokester. He loved people; he never met a stranger and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone. He was strong willed, a good friend, generous, and was quick to forgive. J.R. was a rock in his family, he taught his family about God, he taught them not to judge, and to strive to be more loving and kind. He also loved to hear a good joke and he may have played a few pranks on people through the years, all in the name of fun. He was thrifty, he enjoyed finding a great deal and letting you know about it. He loved going fishing, Florida, going to the beach, going out to eat, road trips, and music. What he truly loved was his family, he missed Pam, and he was so proud of his son and grateful for their relationship. Spending time together was priceless and always cherished.
He is preceded in death by: His wife, Pamela Sue Dorminey; a son, Sylvester Dean; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Mike Newman.
Survivors include: his son, Timothe A. (Alana Clayton) Humphrey; three grandchildren, Christian Dean, Nickolas Newman, Haley Davis; a brother, Randy Cooper; Sonya Shelton, Donna Fe Herring Mills, Amber Herring, Justin Shelton, Sue Overby, Joanne Cooper, Randy Cooper, Nancy and Ray Mills McGee, Michael Cooper, Robert Cooper, and his forever friends, Bobbie Sue Morris, Ralph “Woody” Woods, James Nichols, Danny Cobb, Chris and Angela Lee, Tyler Nichols, Brett Johnson, Brent Ussery, Mark Mathis, Gene Marsh, Ricky Malone, Sidney and Kim Johnson, George Gainer, Richard Stephens Jr., Mike and Lydia Grady, Jim and Jo Ellen Holbrook, Calvin Craig, and David Daniels.
