

Comilla Virginia “Maw Maw” Collier, age 88, resident of Columbus and former resident of Davis, OK., passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Monday, November 22, 2010, 3 p.m. with Reverend Paul Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Monday, November 22, 2010 from 2-3 p.m. Mrs. Collier, daughter of the late Walter Lee Welch and Addie Lee Dunn Welch, was born February 11, 1922 in Pernel, OK. She worked in the restaurant business for 60 years and loved every minute of it. Mrs. Collier will be remembered for her great love for family, friends, and everyone she met. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Collier; three sisters, Gertie Fowler, Bertie Todd, and Estelle Norton; and two brothers, Jim Welch and Sherman Schrader. Mrs. Collier is survived by one daughter, Paulla Kaye Collier of Walterboro, SC; one son, Ronald L. Thomas and his wife Bonetia of Columbus; four grandchildren, Ronald L. Thomas and his wife Kim of Columbus, Paul Thomas and his wife Pam of Columbus, Thomas Duncan and his wife Lyndee of Hamilton, GA, and April Gilbert and her husband Jarrell of Columbus; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda Thomas, Jared Thomas, Clay Thomas, Shawn Thomas, Laine Duncan, Lewis Duncan, and Jesse Gilbert; many other relatives and friends.
