David Charles Carey, age 79, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021. He died just a few days short of his 80th birthday, in the company of grandchildren Luke and Jake, after picking them up from school. His passing was sudden and peaceful.
David was born December 23, 1941 in Atlanta, Georgia to parents Harold William Carey and Margaret Addilee Chamblee Carey. Following the untimely death of his father, David worked in the Air Force for a short time as a mechanical engineer before a security check discovered that he was too young to serve. Following an honorable discharge, he continued to study engineering at Georgia Tech. For most of his career, he worked as a senior field engineer for Polychrome and other companies in the graphic arts industry.
David took great pleasure and enjoyment from life, but his greatest joy was to help others do the same. He will be remembered for his good nature and kind spirit, for his ability to solve almost any kind of problem, for his smile and his laugh, but above all else, for his devotion to his family.
David is survived by his wife, Annie Lou Carey; his sister Patricia Hipp; his brother James Maxwell; his children, William Paul (and Eva) Carey, Phillip Eugene (and Margaret) Carey, and Jennifer Ann Herring; his grandchildren Luke Jackson Alexander, Charles James Carey, Jake Byron Alexander, Samuel Fuller Carey, Helen Anna Carey, and Audrey Anna Herring. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Carlton Byron Maxwell, his sister Diane, his brother Morris, and his daughter Angela Dawn Carey.
A visitation for the family and friends of David will be held Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
