David S. Sasser, 87, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on February 22, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Geneva, Alabama on March 17, 1937 to the late Lou Mills Sasser and James U. Sasser. David faithfully served his country in the United States Navy form 1955 until 1959. He was married to Sue Miller in 1962 and they called Columbus, Georgia home.
Mr. Sasser was Christian by faith and was a member of East Highland Church. He retired from Atmos Energy as a Supervisor after many years of service. After his retirement from Atmos Energy, he worked for himself as a painter and wallpaper installation specialist, and also other odd jobs around the community. Mr. Sasser enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved babies, and children seemed to gravitate towards him. He also loved fishing, Braves Baseball, and Alabama Football. In his youth, he loved playing baseball and, as an adult, he played softball on Church and Industrial Leagues. He was also skilled in the kitchen. Among his specialties, were meatloaf and lasagna – but his “made from scratch” biscuits were what everyone loved the most. Mr. Sasser will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his loving memory to be cherished by his loving wife, Sue M. Sasser; his children: Mark Sasser (Paula) and Susan Sasser Sivell; his grandchildren: Eric Bowers (Tiffany), Allen Bowers, Paige Sasser Johnson (Justin), Katie Sasser Hudgens (Andrew), Staci Jones (Lacey), Zack Floore, Chad Floore (Samantha); numerous great grandchildren; his sister, Gladys Jones; and numerous other family members. David is preceded in death by his parents, Lou and James Sasser; his sisters: Lillie Mae Pope, Annie Clyde Stephens, Nellie Pearl Marsh, Eloise Brannon, Jeanette Miller, Evelyn Carpenter, and Jimmie Inez Sasser; and his brothers: Dewitt Sasser, Brady Lee Sasser, and James U. Sasser, Jr..
A Funeral Service for Mr. Sasser will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Family will visit with friends from 1:00 PM until time of the service. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
