He attended local schools, earning a bachelor’s degree from Harper College. Dean began his executive career at Endicott Johnson Shoe Co, Endicott, NY; Ward White US Holdings, in Atlanta, GA and then was employed by W.C. Bradley, in Columbus GA until he retired.
Dean was a faithful servant of First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City, NY and Columbus, GA. Dean belonged to Green Island Country Club, enjoying golf with a compatible foursome, as well as gardening & fishing. He subscribed to the Columbus Symphony, the Springer Opera House and the Atlanta Opera.
Dean served the Columbus community as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He also filled a leadership role and eventual presidency of the Bridge of Columbus Inc. GED program, a non-profit organization for young adults providing educational and emotional support to young people earning their GED’s.
Dean and his first wife Marjorie Joyce (Meaker) Haulton, were married for 39 years until her death, and were the parents of Jon Haulton (Bonnie) Minneapolis, MN; Ellen Rury (Tom) Binghamton, NY; and Susan Hunt, Johnson City, NY. He rejoiced in family and especially his grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle & Pat Rury, Jakob Hunt, Jack and Jayme Haulton; great-grandchildren Cayden Haupers, and Jesse Rosenwinkle. Married a second time to Vivian (Law) Thomas Haulton for 22 years, he was a gracious father to step-children Valerie Thomas of Altadena, CA and Glenn Thomas of Johnson City NY.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Striffler- Hamby Mortuary at 4701 Macon Road, Columbus on Friday June 24, from 4-7 pm.
A Homecoming service will be held in Binghamton, NY, at a later date. He will laid to rest at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
