Delane R. Berdine

Born in Columbus on Nov. 15th 1947, Dee made her life here as a wife, sister, mother to two daughters, proud Nana to grand and great-grand children, and ‘Aunt Lane’ to a passel of deeply-loved nieces and nephews.

Delane prided herself on her home, her love of being a hairdresser, her treasured role as a Nana, and being hostess of many happy family gatherings. She was known for her elegant and always perfectly manicured hands, which she often used to prepare some of the best Southern meals to ever grace a Corningware plate. But, where she could really show off was in her oven! Her legendary sour cream poundcakes and pecan pies were rumored to have brought many a grown man to tears, and may have even sparked a marriage proposal, or two!

Some of her favorite times were Sunday family gatherings on Snellings Dr when she, and her sisters would wile away the afternoon on the back porch with an old cake pan in their laps, shelling peas and chatting, or loading up the little Coachman camper and hitting the road with her husband and girls.

Fall in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee always held a special place in her heart. One of her most recent treasured memories was the surprise birthday party her family held for her at Harley-Davidson. She spoke of it often, and always with a smile on her face.

She loved Fireworks, butterflies, anything pink, Dolly Parton, Elvis, autumn, sweet tea, and she was always ready for ‘a bite of something sweet’.

To honor some of her favorite things and most cherished times, there will be a celebration of her life near her birthday this coming November. Details will be forthcoming as we take the time to plan an event that will represent the things and people that she loved most, an one that she would have been delighted to attend.
