Dennis was born on June 20, 1945, in Columbus, Georgia to Dorothy and Clyde Smith. He spent many years in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. After the military, he worked for Coca-Cola for 34 years as a Transport Driver where he retired from in 2010. He was of the Pentecostal faith with his loving wife, Jeanette, whom he had been married to for 52 years. He was known for his kindness and would always put others above himself. He loved unconditionally and to his daughter, Diane, was known as her hero.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Davis; his father, Cecil Davis and his brother, Raymond Smith. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Smith; his children, Diane Corbin (Gerald) and their kids, Ryan, Andrew, Emily (Josh) and Brooke (Seth), Lisa Sutton (Charles) and their kids, Dustin (Veronica) and Cristy, and Steven Killingsworth (Heather) and their kids Janine (Matthew), Tabatha (Alex) and Stevie Grace; his great grandchildren, Hudson, Jonah and Jackson, Issac (Evelyn), Noah, Elijah and Miles; his great-great grandson, Luka; and his siblings, Karen Smith (Greg), Leslie Davis (Debbie) and Beth Webb Stanton (Luther) as well as many other extended family.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary in Fisher Chapel. Burial will take place following at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at 12:30 PM EST.
