Derrick Devins

Born March 28,1971 in Columbus, Georgia, Derrick lived a life marked by hard work and perseverance. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and spent many years working as a mechanical technician, security guard, and in manufacturing. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic and determination.

Derrick was preceded in death by his mother, Hildegard Zimmer Flood, and his father, William David Devins. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Abby Nicole Starling Devins; his stepfather John Earl Flood; his father-in-law, James Starling Sr; his half-sister Michelle Devins Hamric; his brother-in-law, Cameron Starling; his brother-in law, James Starling Jr. and wife, Kristi Starling; his sister-in law, Brittany Koone and husband, Cason Koone; along with many extended family members, friends and loved ones.

Derrick enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and enjoyed visiting Panama City Beach, Florida, and Biloxi, Mississippi. He took great pride in his Nissan pickup truck and enjoyed keeping it in good shape. He also dearly loved the cat he shared with Nicole, whose companionship brought him comfort and happiness over the years. Whether fishing, traveling to the coast, spending time at home with Nicole and their cat, or enjoying a cold beer, Derrick found happiness in life's everyday moments. Those who knew Derrick knew that he appreciated familiar places, quiet moments and the things that brought him joy. Derrick's passing marks the end of life lived in his own way. He leaves behind memories that will remain with those who knew him. May those memories bring comfort to his family and friends in the days ahead. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18.

The family appreciates the thoughts, prayers and support extended during this difficult time as they remember Derrick and reflect on his life. May he rest in peace.

A celebration of life will be held at River of Life Church 8060 US 27 Hamilton, GA on Monday June 15 at 1pm.
