Don was born in Brookhaven, MS to the late William Barney Gregg and Nelline (Corban) Gregg on October 2, 1948. He graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1966. He then attended The University of Mississippi where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. He had a diverse work history entailing employment as a hospital, retail, and nuclear pharmacist.
In 1980, Don and his wife, Marilyn, both joined the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed at Charleston Naval Hospital and Great Lakes Naval Hospital. He was honorably discharged after five years, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In 1986, they moved to Columbus, GA and called it home.
Don was a faithful and loyal husband whose passing will be felt deeply by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn (Clark) Gregg. He was a devoted father to their only child, Joseph Gregg (Yoko Takeuchi) of Osaka, Japan. Time spent with his grandchildren, Nina and Toki, brought him great joy and many wonderful memories. Don was a loving older brother to his sister, Marsha Gregg Pittman (Bill). Other survivors include, Amber Pittman Danielson (Patrick) and their children Luke, Zach and Katelyn of The Woodlands, TX and Tyler Pittman of Brandon, MS.
Don's lifelong best friend, Michael Burt (Jennifer), has this to say about Don: "Don was a studied scientist; a kind gentleman; an amusing comic; a curious intellectual; a committed patriot; a student of the human mind with its many nuances; a self-taught, but accomplished musician; a prudent risk-taker; a student and examiner of religions, but a disciplined follower of Christ and His teachings. But, to those who knew Don personally, he was a faithful, deliberate and enduring friend, who made them want to become a better person."
