With heavy heart we must say good bye to a wonderful man and uncle.  I will always have a special in my heart for you along  with Aunt Mary.

I'm so blessed to have known you since childhood, and to have been accepted into your family. Thank you sir, for your strong yet gentle example and for your brave service to our country. Enjoy paradise with your beloved.

I am not an original part of the Porters' but was adopted by them spiritually. They welcomed into the family with open arms an love. I enjoyed the chance to help nurture Marlas dad an help take care of him in his journey from earth to heaven an am happy an blessed to have been given the gift to love dad Porter.

I wish we could attend the service. Im glad we saw Mr Porter at Thanksgiving. He was a good, kind and loving gentle man. Now he is celebrating with his bride...in Heaven.

We have not only lost another WWII verteran, we have lost a wonderful, loving, caring man. I always looked up to my Uncle Don with the upmost respect. He was the reason I joined the United States Marine Corps. I wanted to be like him. I remember him as a strong man with hands as big as bear paws. He use to take me fishing when I was a young boy. Just the two of us. One night we were fishing by the dam at Lake Vermilion and I fell off the dock into the dark watery depths. As I envisioned myself being sucked through the dam, or eaten by a giant catfish, a big hand with vise grip like strength latched on to my scrawny arm and pulled me to safety. I was a little shook up, but when we looked at eachother, we both started laughing. I will never forget that. My wife and I had talked about me getting down there to see Uncle Don before the Lord called him home, but that will not happen now. However, even in my sadness, I find joy knowing where he is and that I will see him again some day. Condolences to you Rick, Marla and the rest of the family and friends. Semper Fi Uncle Don!

It was a pleasure having Mr Porter as a neighbor for so many years.I always enjoyed the talks we would have.He and Mary would always keep an eye on the house for me while I was at work.He will certainly be missed.

I always enjoyed stopping and talking to Mr. Porter when I was walking around the neighborhood. Always friendly.

I can remember the Porter family reunions and I would be so excited to see Aunt Mary and Uncle Don. These were such happy times in my life. Uncle Don was such a kind, gentle, loving  man. He will be missed by so many. I love you Uncle Don and I will miss you!

I can remember Uncle Don trying to teach me, Marla, & Rick how to play baseball. Marla would foul tip the ball then drop the bat & would cover her head with her arms & hands & run in circles at the plate screaming afraid going to get hit in the head. Uncle Don would tell her to stand still & you won't get hit. We would laugh. And he always had good advice for me at work.  He & Dad gave me a good work ethic. Miss them both. We are saying good bye to another wonderful Porter brother.

Uncle Don was so strong and gentle.  Such a beautiful example of a Christian husband and Dad.  He was a strong leader.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and an easy laugh.  I thought he could do anything.  We will all miss him but will celebrate his arrival in heaven.

You were my "Big Bad Bear", you would call me on the phone and growl, it would scare me and you would laugh. How I wish I could have experienced that call again. I will miss you very much and am so great full that you were in my life if only for a little while. I love you and miss you and Aunt Mary........

It is hard to find words to express what you are feeling.  Know that Uncle Don is with your Mom and they are dancing with Jesus.  Know that he is gone from this earth, but you will see him again in heaven. Trust in The Lord and remember all the good memories.  God bless you.
