Doris Ward Rowe was born in Slocomb, Alabama in 1931. She was the daughter of the late Charley and Leola Killingsworth Ward. Doris graduated from Jordan High School in 1949. She worked in the textile industry for 41 years beginning with Columbus Manufacturing that had become Johnston Industries at the time of her retirement.
After retirement Doris did volunteer work for the St. Francis Auxiliary, the Students Club, and the Kiwanis Club of Columbus. Doris also participated in several political campaigns over the years. Doris enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family. For years she was a member of the Goodwill Class at Wynnton Methodist Church and was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus.
Other than her parents Doris is preceded by three brothers Aubrey Ward, Earl Ward, and Charles Ward, as well as a daughter Jennifer Meacham and three husbands John “Larry” Meacham, Ernest Casaday, and Robert “Bobby” Rowe.
Doris is survived by two daughters Deborah Wright (Tommy Wright, deceased) and Karen Kendall (Robert “Rob” Kendall), five grandsons John Wright (Jordan), Mark Thomason, Jr., Ethan Kendall, William Alexander, Miles Alexander, a granddaughter Stephanie Wright, and four great grandchildren Lillian Wright, Colin Wright, Keira Wise, and Reese Thames.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, 2026 at Striffler Hamby Mortuary with visitation at 1:30 pm, Funeral at 2:30 pm, and burial at Park Hill Cemetery following funeral.
