Dorothy "Dot" Elizabeth Bentley

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend David Helms officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, April 18, 2011 at the funeral home.

Dorothy was a Lifelong resident of Columbus. She was the only Child of the late Carl Byron Smith and Ada Pearl Smith. "Dot" as most of her family and friends called her was a homemaker and was married to William Lavon Bentley for 47 years until his passing in 1987. Dot along with her parents were instrumental in establishing the first building for the new Gentian Baptist Church. Always a tireless worker, whether teaching Sunday School, playing the piano, and just being faithful until her health began to fail several years ago.

Working in the yard was her outdoor passion and it was always evident just by looking at the beautiful flowers and trees around her home. She loved her family and was always there to be part of their lives.

She is survivied by one son, Larry Lavon Bentley and his wife, Deborah Keeble Bentley of Waverly Hall, GA; two granddaughters, Kristen Faith Bentley, and Andrea Paige Bentley; one great grandson, Taylor Brady Sheppard, and one great granddaughter, Jordan Elizabeth Bentley.
